CHOCOLOT

March 2, 2007 Chocolot had a stroke a few days ago and medical intervention was not making any improvement for him. He was no longer able to stand or walk. We made the painful decision to euthanize him. Goodbye old fellow, your quiet dignity will be missed!!

Chocolot is a Siamese/Manx. His story is, to us, another amazing one.

A wonderful man named John found Chocolot. John was driving out of his retirement community and saw a cat take off running from the mowers. Nothing terribly unusual to that except the cat ran slam into a building! He stopped and went to see if the cat was ok. The part that really becomes amazing is that John is severely allergic to cats. I am talking eyes swelling closed, use an inhaler allergic to cats. John picked the cat up and went door to door to all the houses in the community to see who this cat belonged to. No one would claim him so now John has a problem. He can't in good conscience just put the cat down and walk away so he takes him home with him and gives him something to eat and drink. John gets on the phone and starts calling the local shelters and Humane Societies. One told him that they would accept him but he would be put to sleep in 3 days. John responded no he won’t….he was not going to take this animal some where that would destroy him. He took him to the local vet to have him checked out and to see if they knew of a safe place to go. The vet told him they knew of a place that takes blind cats (us) and got him our phone number. John got Chocolot all vetted out and drove 3 hours to bring him to us. You don’t often find someone that is willing to go so out of the way to help a stray and the part that amazes me is that he is so allergic to the cat and yet still helped him! When John got here his eyes were all swollen and had an inhaler in his hands.

Chocolot is a friendly fellow except when he has to take his high blood pressure medicine, then he is a terror! We sure would love to know how he came to be homeless.
