Lucy was given away by her owner to a rescue in Raleigh. The rescue in Raleigh asked us if we would take her.

She arrived 9/10/06. Lucy has high blood pressure, 1 pill a day takes care of that problem. We were horrified when she got here. To her previous owners credit, they did occasionally take her to the vet and her vet records showed that she had lost almost 65% of her body weight in less than a year. Yes that reads right, 65% She had weighed 14 pounds and we recieved her at 5 pounds. They (the owners) were either not feeding her or she was very depressed and sure not eating. (she was only with the rescue for a few days so I know it wasn't them)... Lucy likes to eat... she has regained 3 pounds and we are feeding her kitten food for extra supplement to try to put her weight back on. We took her to the vet to make sure there was no medical reason for her condition and the only thing they found was anemia. We were told to feed her kitten food and give her a vitamin supplement.

Update, Nov 9 2006 Late last night when I went in the bedroom to give Lucy her high BP medicine I discovered that had collapsed and was unable to stand or walk. We rushed her to the vet first thing this morning. (We did not take her to urgent care because our urgent care if absolutely worthless and charges $400 to do nothing but put the animal on an IV, she was not dehydrated). Our vet immediately put her on IV's to warm her up (her body temp has dropped and she was hypothermic because it could not regulate itself)...and started to draw blood. She died before they got the needle in her. We asked for an autopsy to be done because we had to know why she had died. The autopsy showed basically nothing. It showed that she was still very anemic and that it looked like basically her body had stopped producing red blood cells. We are so sadden by her death. and she will be missed. We brought her home and buried her in our rainbow garden with a white rose bush marking her grave.

Goodbye sweet Lucy, we will see you again, we are just so sad that you were not here with us longer!
