We took Carrot to Raleigh for his eye surgery and to my dismay it was just for a consult. Can you say I was very angry? We had had several converstaions and I understood surgery was schedule. It is scheduled for next week.
Cheetah is FELV+ and very very sick. We took him to our vet with a fever of 105.3 We transfered him to Raleigh the next day. He had an ultrasound for his abdomen. He has an enlarged liver and spleet. He also has free fluid present in his abdomen (that is not supposed to be there) and enlarged lymph nodes. He had x-rays done, Abdomen is distended. No evidence of pnemonia. Lots of blood work, Protein very high, white cell very high, anemic (not severe) but the globulin is normal (which is very strange because all the vets are seriously thinking this is FIP) We are waiting for an abdominal FIP mRNA PCR test which is basically going to give us the full DNA of the fluid they have removed from his abdomen and also on his blood. It will tell us if it is FIP (You can read lots on FIP at http://www.lbah.com/word/feline-infectious-peritonitis ) So bottom line, Cheetah is very sick. They have ruled out so many other things, They think he actually does have FIP. Right now he is still eating and does not appear to be in pain. He is not as playful and he normal is, he obviously does not feel good. FIP is 100% fatal. We are waiting for the test, hoping it will show something else other than FIP. We will let Cheetah tell us when he has had enough. Prayers and positive energy are needed for this little guy. The bill for him in Raleigh was $2967.00
