Blind Cat Rescue 1/12/2015
Did you know.....
A blind cat is just like any other cat?
They have no idea they are blind, they know
they are cats. They act like “normal” cats.
They play and love like a seeing cat :)
Questions we are often asked:
Why are there so many blind cats?
Sadly because their first owners did not take them to the vet
and treat a simple upper respiratory infection. The respiratory
infection caused a severe eye infection and that caused them
to become blind. Antibiotics would have prevented a large
percentage of cats becoming blind.
A blind cat has no idea they are blind, they know they are cats,
they act like cats. Their other senses are very accurate. They
have no problem finding the litterbox, food, etc. They will
also climb up on kitchen cabinets, knock towels off of shelves
and get into the same kind of trouble that a seeing cat will.
How do they find the litterbox, food, etc?
Do you adopt out your cats?
We are a kufe time care sanctuary, we do not adopt. Many of
our cats have had multiple placements. Many have had very
rough lives. We give them the promise when they come to us
they finally have forever. We will take good care of them and
love them for the rest of their lives.
May we visit the cats?
The cats love visitors! We have staff here for visitors
Tuesday - Saturdays 1-4 pm. If you want to come earlier
and help cleaning first, we start at 8:30 am sharp :) We
have an open house monthly. The next one is 1/17 noon-4
Cat Updates
JOY
Sweet Joy is an FELV+ cat. (She has leukemia) She was very
sick when she arrived and has been placed on a feeding tube.
We took her to see a specialist in Raleigh on Thursday 1/8.
Joy came to us after being trapped by a rescue at a horse farm
in Virginia. (She is ear-tipped) When she tested FELV+ the
rescue found someone to foster her. She had at some time
been sprayed by a skunk. She still has a slight hint of skunk
smell.
Joy has severe anemia. Her bloodwork indicates that her bone
marrow is no longer working. She also has dry FIP. Sadly
there is no fixing what is wrong with her. She is actually
eating a little bit on her own and seems comfortable. She
will let us know when it is time and then we will hold her
as she returns to her maker. Until then we will keep loving her
and keeping her comfortable.
If you read our blog, we have her blood tests on there and more
info. http://blindcatrescue.blogspot.com She is on 1/9 &
12/31. You will see her x-rays on 12/31 She also has 2 gun
pellets showing up in the x-rays. Poor little girl has had a very
rough life. She is such a sweet cat.
JAKE
Jake is a super sweet senior FIV+ cat. He has been having
some trouble for the last month and has been to the vet
numerous times for blood work, sonagrams, etc. He also
has a feeding tube.
We took him also to Raleigh on Thursday with Joy.
The internal medicine vet did more blood work, x-rays
and ultrasounds on him. He either has inflammatory bowel
disease (that would be good) verses small cell intestinal
lymphoma (bad). We are waiting for different blood panels
to come back from the lab.
All in allhe is doing pretty good. He is eating on his own
and maintaining his weight. You may read more about him
on our blog on 1/9
Oh, his x-rays show 3 bullet pellets. He has only been
with us for 3 years. Wh oknows what happened to him
before he came to us.

Animal Rescue Site
We are no longer in this contest. They take the rescues from the
petfinder.com database. Petfinder requires you to be an
adoption agency. We are a forever home for our cats so we do
not qualify to be on their site. They asked if we adopt out and
we replied we do not. We have been removed from their database.
We hope you will pick your local county animal shelter to vote for,
they always need help. :)
