Jack
October 2017 - Jack is a FELV+ cat who came to us from the state of Virginia. Jack is a very lucky kitty to be a live. Here is the actual email from the person who saved him. “Hi, this is Jack. He has been living at a gas station with a small feral colony for quite some time. The gas station is next to a trailer park where some people were very cruel to them and would hit the cats with sticks and throw things at them. His caretaker moved out of state before Labor Day and did not tell anyone she was leaving them without a caretaker. Phillip and his friends went without food for several weeks until I realized what was going on. With the help of a friend we got them trapped and vetted with the plans to bring them to two local rescues that had room for them. Unfortunately, Jack tested positive for FeLV and I did not receive a call from the vet to let me know. He has an appointment on Thursday of this week to be retested, if the second test is positive, we will have to sadly put him down if we cannot find a place for him. I do not want to have to do that. When he was at the gas station he was very friendly to those feeding him. He enjoys the company of others kitties and is non symptomatic at this time from the FeLV. I would love to give him the opportunity to experience something positive in his life. Can your rescue possibly help me do so? Please let me know either way, as our time is limited. “
He is a very nice cat, does well with other cats and is learning that humans are not such a bad thing. He is a very nice cat!

6/21/2018 This is a letter that I am surprised to be writing today. We had scheduled Jack to go to the vet today because he has been losing weight although he was eating. (We weigh them every week) I knew when I picked him up to put him in the carrier that the vet was going to say FIP. I so hate being right. The vet took off considerable fluid from his abdomen and there was no question when i saw it what it was. FIP is sadly 100% fatal and it is also painful. There is nothing we can do to fix it for him. Jack went quietly in my arms over the rainbow bridge. Jack came to us from a feral colony near a gas station where he had been abused by humans. We were blessed to have been able to give him a home for 8 months. At least for his finals months, he was cared for and loved. He was a nice fellow who will be missed.
