Eugene
10/2021 Eugene came to us after being abandoned on the streets and found his way to our property. We had seen him as a stray on the property but couldn’t get him into the trap. We guess he decided he was tried of being hungry because he was found sitting on my deck talking to my cats. We guess he figured he might be able to get a meal there. He was right. He was injured (it looked like he had maybe been thrown out of a car so he was immediately taken to the vet. Of course he was not fixed and is also FIV+. We think he was abandoned with 2 others. There was a dead cat in the road at the end of the driveway and we still have another one that is avoiding us catching him in the trap. We got a picture of him, he is absolutely an unfixed male. We are at capacity and have been turning cats down for some time as we try to get the numbers down to what they should be for the space we are working with. Ordinarily when we have a stray abandoned on the property they are negative. If they are feral we get them fixed and their shots and release them (TNR). If they are friendly we work with another rescue who will take them after we get them completely vetted and ready to be adopted. He is FIV/FELV+ and in our area there is no place for him to go, so he gets to stay with us.

5/2/2023 It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Eugene, our beloved FELV cat, has passed away. He had started having serious health problems a month ago and the vet felt we were dealing with cancer or Hemobart and was started on treatment. Yesterday he spiked a 105 fever and was taken to the vet. His blood work showed that his anemia had gotten much worse and the rest of his bloodwork was just a mess. The vet and I talked for some time, went over his blood work line by line and what our options of were and we both agreed, it was time to let him go. Eugene was quite the character. He loved to bully the staff to take him for walks in the garden, he liked to bite us like we are catnip toys. He liked to sit on your heads and chew on your hair. He loved catnip and would become extremely nipped on it. Please keep Eugene in your thoughts, and let us take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. Eugene brought so much joy to our lives, and we will never forget the time we spent with him.
