Gallie
2012 Gallie came to us from Brevard County Animal Control in Florida. We were notified by a citizen
that she was there and with lots of help by lots of wonderful people, she came to us. A
huge thank you to Diane & Bill from Atlantic Animal Clinic in Pompano Beach, Fl. for
driving 6 hours to pick her up & bring her back to their clinic. Thank you to Elizabeth, her
mother, Mindy & Ivonne for facilitating her journey by driving 10 hours to bring her
to us.
Her eyes look the way they do because she has a severe case of Glaucoma. They are hard and
painful. She is completely blind & they will be removed. We do have her on pain medication for
the next 2 days until she goes to the vet. She is super sweet & I know is going to feel so much
better once her eyes are taken care of.
5/22 It is the day after surgery & she is doing so much better. We had her eyes removed, got
her spayed, bloodwork, UA, fecal, shots, etc. She got the works (smile)
The feeding tube is to make it easier on her with all the meds she has to take, she won’t have to taste
them. Also she is thin, was barely eating before surgery. This way we can make sure she consumes
enough calories. I am sure that she will start eating as soon as she feels better.
She is a super sweet girl who gives lots of head bumps.
Update: Gallie is a sweet heart who gets along well with the other cats. She recovered
well from her surgery.

This is a letter I just can't believe I have to write today.
Gallie had started having problems with nose bleeds a year ago. She went to the doctor several times
with ones we could not stop. She had a CT scan, she had tests, and all they could find was
inflammation. We started her on nasal medicine that was an anti-inflammatory and for a year it
worked. Last week she had a nose bleed but we were able to quickly stop it with a coagulant powder.
Last night she had a nose bleed that was severe. There was blood everywhere, poor Jessica had been
trying to stop it and was covered with blood, Kristin, Alyson, Jessie, and I were all covered with
blood, we had been trying approx 15 minutes. The floors, the walls, the washer were all covered with
blood. There were blood and bloody towels and q-tips everywhere. To be honest, it looked like a
massacre was happening. She started spraying arterial blood from her nose and at that point, I put her
in the car and rushed her to the vet which took 15 minutes. When I got her to the vet she was rushed
to treatment where they tried to stop the bleeding. Her carrier, OMG, I just can't begin to describe
how bad it was. The vet's office was finally able to slow the bleeding but was not able to completely
stop it. Gallie was having problems breathing, probably because her nostrils were full of blood and
the stop bleed powder. She had aspirated blood, The vet had her on oxygen. It was just so horrible.
The vet and I were having some serious discussions about what to do, and what are our choices were.
We are trying to get her into a vet to get an emergency CT scan and were unsuccessful. The closest
was Raleigh and she could not have survived a 2 hour drive bleeding like she was. She had also
started having neurological signs of distress.
Gallie also has severe arthritis and spinal spondylosis. She was on pain shots, having 2 laser
treatments a week, and on daily gabapentin for pain. When she walked you could see how much pain
she was in. She had some serious quality-of-life issues also.
The decision was made to let her go over the rainbow bridge. I know 100% it was the right decision.
We were not going to change the final outcome and she was suffering. I was with her telling her how
much we loved her as she went over the rainbow bridge. We are having a necropsy done to see what
caused this catastrophic bleed to lead to this horrible outcome.
We were blessed with 11 years with our sweet Pancake. Gallie came to us in 2012 from an animal
control facility in Florida where she had been sitting with severe glaucoma in both eyes. Gallie made
the journey to us with the help of some amazing people and we got those painful eyes removed for her
and her vet care squared away. Gallie lived in the lobby of House 2 and was the best supervisor for
the employees that you could have ever asked for. She also was an amazing greeter for the visitors.
She could sit in their laps for hours. You could find Gallie in her hammock, sunbathing in the grass by
the memorial garden, she loved the rose bushes or flattened out like a freshly poured pancake in her
cardboard bed. We will certainly miss coming into the lobby and watching her head tilt up as you
greet her. We will all miss her very much.
