2011 Riley (who is blind) was dumped at her the pound by her owners because they could not afford to spay her and because she was not using the litter box consistently. This poor cat has short legs and is 17 pounds! Probably could not get into the box! Lucky for her, she was at a good animal control center and they called us to help. With the help of several transport angels, she was brought to safety. Not only did this poor girl need to get spayed, she had a mouth full of rotted teeth that needed attending. It must have been very painful for her to eat! She is a very friendly big girl. Sponsored by Rebecca - Thank you! Sponsored by Grace & Carmine- Thank you! Sponsored by Kathy in memory of her precious daughter Katelyn, who loved animals. Sponsored by Jean - Thank you! Sponsored by Maria - Thank you! Sponsored by Ronald - Thank you! 2/19/2014 We took Riley to the vet last week because she had mega colon and had become blocked... (This was her first episode in 10 months) Her blood work showed that her kidneys were also failing. We started her on medicine that we hoped would stop the failing and brought her home Monday. She spent her afternoon yesterday laying in the sun, enjoying being outside... but also not eating, not doing much of anything. I took her back to the vet today. I asked for them to do blood again, the numbers were worse. I asked for a feeding tube, feeling that maybe we could get a small miracle.... the tube would make managing her illness and all the medicines easier and that maybe we would get a miracle that the medicines would work....I went to pick her up this afternoon and she had "the look"... the look that says, enough is enough.... she was so swollen with fluid from the kidneys not working yet she was very dehydrated, her back bone was sticking out, she could not comfortably. And she looked like she was absolutely suffering. The vet had left the catheter in her leg because she felt strongly that I would be back with in 24 hours with her and they had had such a hard time finding a vein. I knew right then that enough was enough, we were not going to get a miracle and I was not going to make her suffer trying to get one... I held her as we euthanized her She was such a sweet soul. Got a long with everyone, never had a bad hiss for anyone, loved everyone, I will always remember sitting in the swimming pool with her. We love them all but some touch us more than others... She touched all of our hearts..... and will be so missed!
