Meet ME :)
I am Alana, your chief pooper scooper. I also write these
newsletters, mistakes and all. Do Facebook, the office work,
fund raising, vet runs, supply runs and am the director of the
place. The cat you see in my arms is Harper, my daughter’s
blind cat. I am actually standing in her back yard at Fairchild
AFB in Washington in this picture. You do not see pictures of
me often because I absolutely am not fond of having my picture
taken. I am always horrified at who is this old woman I see in
the pictures. In my mind I am still 30 years old.
I told you guys I was going to sneak out for a few days to
spend with my daughter before the busiest 2 months of my life
begin. Off to Portland I went. If you do not travel/fly much.
I discovered something interesting I thought I would share
with you. For $29. on United you can bi-pass to the fast track
TSA check in, you do not have to take your shoes off. CRAZY!!
I was through the line in Portland Oregon ( a HUGE airport)
in less than 5 minutes. The other lines were backed up 6 lines,
30 people deep. Shows how unsafe we really are. I am pretty
sure most terrorist can afford $29. to bi-pass the long line.
Japanese Garden
beautiful in the middle of a
big city.
Chinatown
With my daughter inside a submarine. If you knew how
claustrophobic I am you would be amazed that I was down
in this tiny little boat. Shudder
One of my favorite parts of
the trip, meeting one of our
supporters, Valerie and going
on a segaway tour
WHEEEEE
One of the craziest things I have ever seen, a 2 story Target
store and look how your cart goes up and down. WILD!
(For you in big towns with these kind of stores, forgive me, I
live in a tiny town of 2000) (Thanks for the picture Valerie!)
I visited amazing museums, ate at food trucks and saw things
I had never seen in my 59 1/2 years of life. Being the type A
that I am, I was still answering emails, talking to the vet and in
touch with the shelter. Bill & the staff did a great job of holding
down the fort while I was gone.
I get asked all the time about why/how did I start the shelter. I
will give you the short answer. Insanity LOL. Honestly, my
daughter and I volunteered at a local shelter and ran their
adoption program for years. That is where we got our first,
second, third, & fourth blind cats. When we got to that point
we saw how desperate the need was and decided to do it right
and became a 501. Here we are 10 years later.
So Enough about me :) Bet I told you a lot more than you
wanted to know didn’t I?
UPDATE ON THE CATS
We took Checker to the vet for a check up because he had been
losing weight. When his blood work came back, it showed his
white blood cells was low, Red blood Cells low, Hemoglobin low,
OY VAY! I called the lab and had them add an FELV IFA test
because those results scream that we need to eliminate that
first while trying to figure out what is wrong with him. We knew
he is FIV+ but to our SHOCK he came back as FELV+ What????
The vet is coming Wednesday and we are going to test the entire room
and retest him. Right now we are treating his anemia. Will decide a
treatment plan after retesting him. He is eating.
Major is doing well with his chemo
Sweet Treasure with a sleeping Glen at open house.
Treasure’s blood work looks like Checkers. Low white, red, and hemoglobin.
We know he is FELV+ Those results mean there is a problem going on with
the bone marrow. The leukemia is starting to win. We are treating his anemia,
he is eating and does not appear to be in any pain.
