Socks is a sweet FIV+ kitty who came to us from another shelter whose animals were being removed due to neglect.  A rescue got involved and asked if we could take a few of the FIV+ cats.  We took 2 (Socks & Meadow-who has since passed away) Socks suffers from an illness called Mega-Colon. What is Mega-Colon you ask?  I am so glad you asked :) Mega-Colon is defined by an abnormal dilation of the colon.  Instead of pooping it gets all stopped up.  Your intestines move things along with a peristaltic movement.  With Mega-Colon that is not working correctly either.  Constipation is a very common problem in cats, in severe form it is mega-colon. Symptoms and Diagnosis: They typical symptoms include constipation, straining to defecate, vomiting, dehydration, loss of appetite. It is diagnosed based up on your pets history and a physical exam.  To determine how severe it is,  X-rays are absolutely needed and your vet may want to do blood work and other tests. Treatment: The main goal is to get things cleaned out and determine any other underlying issues that may have contributed to the condition.  Many animals need to be hospitalized for IV fluid therapy and an enema.  Do not give them lots of pumpkin or other things that you find on the Internet.  Imagine how you would feel if you have not pooped in many days.  They need to see a vet. How to prevent mega-colon: Constant fresh drinking water to help prevent dehydration,  regular exercise, regular brushing to help prevent hair balls from blocking things up. Eating wet cat food is absolutely best, add an extra spoon of water to it.  If your cat will not eat wet, talk to your vet about adding a little bit of olive oil to the dry food or sprinkle of Mirabella, also  try adding some water to the food, talk to your vet about digestive probiotics or digestive enzymes. Your vet will also probably prescribe some medications to help keep things open and running.  Lactulose and cisapride are common,  also talk to your vet about using a little bit of miralax. If your cat has not pooped in several days: Take them to the vet! If your cat is straining in the litter box:  Take them to the vet! If your cat is vomiting abnormally : Take them to the vet! Not pooping can cause them to become septic and could cause DEATH! Socks is buddies with many of the other cats,  You will often find her cuddled up with them.

COMPUTER HELP NEEDED!!
We need help setting up a ROKU channel.  I need someone that can put instructions in super simple terms so that a 10 year old can understand it.  We had a ROKU channel but have lost the ability to broadcast it any longer.   If you can help, bless you! Please email   alana@blindcatrescue.com
Simba update
Simba came home with a feeding tube and was doing well.  Sadly his esophagus became badly infected from the tube and it had to be removed.  He is eating on his own,  we are keeping our fingers crossed that he will survive this crisis.
RIP Charlie
Sweet Charlie sadly developed FIP.  This sweet little guy got dealt a really bad deck of cards.  He was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation,  had leukemia and then develop FIP.   We were blessed to have known him for the short time he was with us.

Emily is a little wild child that came to us in 2011.  She was living as a homeless stray.  The people that were feeding these strays saw she had some serious eye problems.  Unable to afford her medical needs they asked us for help. She is a super friendly little girl who likes to get into all kinds of mischief. Here is a video of her playing, we hope you enjoy
