from a rescue who does TNR. She was trapped with 6 other FELV+ babies. Sadly 5 of them passed away early and 1 the rescue was able to find an adoptive home for. The rest needed a place to go, they had tied up foster home for months waiting and reality is, kitten season will be starting soon and they need the foster home available. She is a fun friendly little girl who is busy busy busy. You may watch her on her live camera HERE She is in House 2 room 4

6/6/2023 Sweet Ariel came to us 5 months ago from another rescue that was doing TNR. They had trapped a large group of kittens (10!) All had tested leukemia positive.  They needed a place for them to go,  6 had passed away, 1 was adopted and the remaining 3 were tying up a foster home waiting for a place that could accept them. That is how she, Eric, & Belle came to us.  Sadly we lost Belle within weeks of her arrival.  Leukemia is such a vile disease and very hard for babies born with it. 90 days ago, Ariel developed FIP. There is a new cure for it and we decided to give her a chance with it.  We had caught it very early (before her belly filled with fluid)  She responded very well to it and her blood work improved.  The treatment is 84 days. The interesting thing about leukemia is you can test to see how much leukemia is circulating in their systems.  It is called a quantum PCR test. Per the lab: "These quantitative results are >=1.0 x 10^6 copies/mL and consistent with a progressive FeLV infection" 3/9 when she got sick it was 2957.66  (I had never seen one that high) 3/23  we retested her blood to see if the treatment was working.  Her regular blood work was all returning to normal EXCEPT her quantum had gone to 5622.78 4/13  Blood work is now normal except her quantum is 5701.00 6/1/  We did a final blood test because the FIP company will give you a 50% discount if the cat relapses and needs another treatment.  Her blood work was beautiful BUT her quantum is 7567.50   I was horrified. She survived FIP but she was not going to survive leukemia and from years of experience, I knew it was just a matter of time.  I so hate being right. She went into respiratory distress and Samantha rushed her to the vet and we let her go over the rainbow bridge.   She got 90 days more than she was going to get with FIP, and he was doing well, eating, playing, and getting loved on. She was such a sweet cat, I so hoped she would get years, but sadly, Leukemia always wins.   She has rejoined 8 of her siblings,  Eric is the last remaining one.  We will not forget her, she was such an affectionate playful little girl.
