Candy came to us at four months old Charlotte Animal Control, where they
thought she was blind. When she came to us we realized she wasn’t. In fact,
there’s nothing wrong with Candy at all! However, we promise every cat who
comes to BCR a forever home and it’s not different for Candy. This little girl
is very sweet – which is how she got her name! She loves to sit in laps and to
be held like a baby. She’s also known for her feisty attitude, which she can
get when a lap isn’t available fast enough!
Updates:
7/13 Candy has developed a polyp in her ear that will continue
to grow if not removed. She is having surgery on July 10th.
7/20/2013 Candy came through surgery ok and seems to be
recovering nicely.

Dear Candy’s Supporters,
It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we have to share the news of sweet Candy’s
passing.
We knew Candy had reached an age where life was becoming a little more delicate
for her. Her body was slowing down, but her beautiful spirit certainly wasn’t. She was
on a special diet to support her kidney disease and medications to help her aging
joints, and when we held her, we gave her a little extra support for her back. But
through it all, Candy was still Candy, greeting you with those arms wide open, ready
to climb right up and be held like a baby.
This morning, Candy ate her breakfast and, of course, gave us her usual loving
greeting. A short time later, we noticed that she had become unsteady on her feet.
We didn’t waste any time and immediately took her to the veterinarian, where she
began showing serious neurological symptoms along with other life-threatening
concerns. Everything happened so suddenly. Although our hearts were nowhere
near ready to say goodbye, we knew the greatest act of love we could give her was
to make sure she did not suffer.
Because of how suddenly her condition changed, we are having a necropsy
performed in hopes of better understanding what happened.
I held Candy like a baby at the end, just as she had loved to be held so many times
throughout her life. I held her steady, loved on her, and told her how much we were
all going to miss those famous Candy greetings.
For 14 years, we were blessed to watch this incredible girl grow, thrive, and fill our
sanctuary with love. Candy had a special way of initiating everyone into the BCR
family, visitors, volunteers, and staff alike. If you came into her room, there was a
good chance she was going to crawl right up to you until you picked her up. She
didn’t simply wait for affection; Candy made sure you knew you were there to love
her. And you couldn’t help but fall in love with her in return.
Those 14 years were possible because of people like you. Your sponsorship helped
provide Candy with the food, veterinary care, medications, comfort, and safe forever
home she deserved. Most importantly, you gave her your love and became part of
her family. We hope you know just how much that meant to her and to you.
Our sanctuary feels a little emptier today. There will never be another greeting quite
like Candy’s, and there will never be another girl quite as sweet as Candy.
Thank you for loving her alongside us for all these years. We will miss our beautiful
girl more than words can say.
