Some of his wounds
With Thorn
Just Trapped
9/2017 Gabriel is approx 8 years old and came to us from Florida.
This little fellow has quite the story. Some how he found himself abandoned
and living on the streets trying to survive. While Hurricane Irma destroyed
Florida he tried to survive under a car. Several people tried to catch him but he
managed to not be caught. Someone called Davica who is known to be the
neighborhood trapper. 4 o’clock in the morning she is in the middle of
a hurricane determined to trap this cat and she was successful! He was
taken to her vet the next day.
He is skin and bones, covered with many wounds. We don’t know if that
is from the hurricane, being attacked by other animals or both. (I
suspect both) He had a bad upper respiratory infection, eye infection
and is leukemia positive.
Davica put his story on Facebook looking for placement for him. At
the time we only thought he was blind, we did not know he was FELV+
We agreed to find room for him. Davica works for the airlines and is able
to fly for free. She got him neutered and brought him to us. Thorn met her
at the airport in Raleigh and brought him the rest of the way to us.
He is very frightened, covered with wounds.
Update: He is putting on weight, wounds are healing, his bad eye is
going to be removed and be given a much needed dental soon.
Update: He is healing very nicely, fur is filling in. He has now moved into his
room, does well with the other cats and has actually turned into a nice cat.
You may watch him LIVE 24 hours a day on his MeShare camera.
He is in building 2, room 2.

We knew this day was coming, we wish it was years from now instead of today.
Gab had developed many abdominal tumors that were cancerous. He was losing
weight but still eating, he clearly said I am not ready yet. Today he said he was
ready. He could not stand, he refused food, it was clearly time.
The staff spent time loving on him and saying their good byes and then he and I
made our last trip to the vet. I held him in my arms as he went over the rainbow
bridge.
When Gabe came to us he was blind, scared to death of humans, had been injured in
a hurricane, he was a hand full! He developed into a very sweet loving kitty who
stole the hearts of those that knew him. There were many tears today. We were
bless to have 1 1/2 years with him. He will be very missed.
Gabriel
Wounds are looking so much better.
Eyes are done, broken teeth removed, wounds have for the most part
healed, hair regrown. He is now in his room. A much happier cat.
