FeLV+ Gender: Female Approximate age: 2 years (as of 2025) Arrived From: Greenville, North Carolina Arrival Day: September 2023 Lemon, along with siblings Lime and Orange (both boys), came to us from an Eastern North Carolina community cat colony. A wonderful woman was helping to TNR the cats in this community and took in a litter of fluffy orange kittens. When three tested positive for leukemia, she knew they couldn’t go back to the colony nor could they easily be adopted. This amazing woman nursed the trio back to health from the upper respiratory infection all three kittens had, got them spayed or neutered and up to date on their shots. We were happy we had room for them! She and her friend then drove a little over two hours to get all three babies to us. We are very happy that we were able to welcome them! Lemon is non-stop playful and quite opinionated about being picked up. She and her brothers love to zoom at night and chase bugs! You can watch her zoom 24 hours a day on live cameras in House 2, Room 4. You can watch her live HERE
1/4/2025 Dear Supporters, It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Lemon’s passing. After all the love and care she received, it’s incredibly difficult to say goodbye to such a sweet and special soul. When Lemon arrived at the vet, she was not running a fever, and her heart sounded strong and healthy. The vet performed a set of X-rays, and to our shock, her abdomen appeared extremely cloudy. Initially, we suspected FIP. As they were preparing to run bloodwork, the vet also conducted an ultrasound to check for any fluid around her heart, though her heartbeat and lungs sounded clear and strong. During the ultrasound, however, they discovered a large mass in her lung, revealing an aggressive form of cancer. This was devastating news, especially since her December exam showed no issues and her bloodwork was perfect. She had also maintained a healthy weight, and there were no other signs of illness until her recent loss of appetite. Despite the unexpected nature of her illness, we are incredibly grateful for the time we had with Lemon. We will all certainly miss her strong and sassy meows that she would do whenever you would talk to her and say her name. Your sponsorship gave her a chance at life—at love, comfort, and care—and we will forever be thankful for the difference you made. She was surrounded by warmth and kindness, and she knew she was cherished every single day. Thank you for allowing Lemon to be part of our family, even if for a short while. Your generosity gave her the opportunity to experience love, and for that, we are forever grateful. We will hold her memory close in our hearts, and we are honored that she had the chance to know such kindness through your support. With heartfelt thanks and gratitude, Sam
