Ramu!
12/2022 Ramu is a leukemia positive kitty. He is also a 1 in 3,000 kitty because he is a male calico. He was pulled from animal control by another rescue and when he test positive the rescue refused him. The rescue who had pulled him had no place for him to go. We has trapped a neg/neg seeing kitty who needed to get into an adoption track so we swapped cats. I hate doing this but this way both cats get take care of. Ramu was named in honor of one of our donors kitty Ramu who has since passed away. We asked her to name him for us. He is the sweetest friendly fellow and loves everyone. 12/20/22 RIP This is such a sad letter to be writing so soon. Ramu was a leukemia-positive kitty who came to us from another shelter. When he got here we took him to the vet for full blood work and a checkup. His blood work showed he was very anemic and he also had hemobart. Usually when a cat has anemia from hemobart a 30 day round of antibiotics fixes it and the body is able to replenish the blood cells. Yesterday he was running a 105 fever and was immediately hospitalized. He had an ultrasound today. I have seen many many ultrasounds over the years but never have I seen one like this. He was full of cancer. His liver, spleen, and kidneys looked like they had holes in them. His lymph nodes were also involved so it was systemic. There is no fixing this for him, there was no question at all about what the right thing to do was. I held him in my arms as he crossed over the rainbow bridge. Ramu was a super sweet fellow who loved the attention and playing. He showed us how truly stoic cats can be. How on earth he held us this long I will never know. We wish we had much more time with him. He will be missed.
