Swarley
4/2023 Swarley is a 9 year old blind kitty who came to us from a local soldier.
She was having to be out of town a lot and her cat had developed an intense
dislike for her fiancee. The stress had caused her hypertension and she developed
stress cateracts in her eyes. Her owner loved her and wanted the best for her
and felt that leaving the home was the only choice.
Swarley is of course freaked out. She has lost everyone and everything she has
ever known her whole life, This is the 2nd time she has gone throught this. She had
this home for 8 of her 9 years. She has never lived with another cat so she is really not amused
at all having roommates. We are treating her hypertension, which has also
caused kidney disease so she is getting fluids for that. We are giving her lots of
love and she will adjust, it will just take time.
Having had no socialization to other cats, she is so unhappy being with other cats so we decided she
gets to be a lobby cat. She is in house 1 with no other cats in the lobby. You can see her
during tours. She is much happier.

We've seen some cloudy days at BCR over the past couple of months. Today is
not any easier. Swarley Has crossed over the rainbow bridge. She is no longer in
pain and we're sure she has already found the perfect sunspot in the meadows.
Swarley's kidneys were in such bad shape when she came to us from untreated
hypertension. She also was anemic due to her kidneys bleeding from the damage.
We immediately put her on hypertension medication, B12 therapy, and subq fluid
therapy daily. On Tuesday we noticed that Swarley was having issues urinating.
She was taken to the vet where they ran a full blood panel along with a
urinalysis. Her kidney values were horrendous with her anemia even worse.
While at the vet she underwent several days of having her kidneys flushed
hoping it would bounce her back. This morning we ran more bloodwork and it
had gotten worse. The vet and I agreed that her kidneys were shutting down and
we had to what was best for her. She didn't deserve to be in pain any longer so I
held her in my arms in a sunspot shining through the treatment room.
We will miss your morning hellos, Swarley.
It was always a good morning when she jumped out of her hammock as soon as
the door opened to start the day. She loved cheese puffs and any deli sandwich
meat left unattended or still in the clutch of someone's hands. She was a little
shadow in the lobby always curious about what was going on.
Swarley came to us in April from a local soldier. She was having to be out of
town a lot and her cat had developed an intense dislike for her fiancee. The stress
had caused her hypertension and she developed stress cataracts in her eyes. Her
owner loved her and wanted the best for her and felt that leaving the home was
the only choice. Although, she lost everything she ever knew as family. She
gained a whole new one that welcomed and loved her tremendously. She
swooned at every person who walked through BCR's doors.
She was very happy and content. I'm so happy she was able to live the life she
did for the past six months. The only thing I wish is that we were able to give her
more time to enjoy it.
I'm sorry,
Sam
