Thurston
7/2018 Thurston is a FIV+ kitty who came to us by way of our vet. He was found as a stray in their barn. When they trapped him they realized he was not a feral cat. They sadly get animals dropped off all the time outside of their clinic. After months of trying to find him a home they asked us to take him. they wanted him to have a life living outside of a cage. He is a super sweet fellow who seems to like other kitties. You may watch him live on our live cameras. He is in House 2, Room 1. This sweet fellow has now been diagnosed diabetic. He is tolerating us checking his sugar and giving him insulin.

2019 He continues to struggle with his health. he has herpes and has had several flare ups from it. He also has severe stomatitis which is not uncommon for FIV+ cats. He has had ½ of his teeth removed and is scheduled to have the other half removed. Full mouth extraction I assure you was our last choice, but after trying so many other things trying to help him from the horrible pain of stomatitis it has come down to this. 2020 He has been diagnosed with cancer of the kidneys. He is under going chemo. His prognosis is poor.
2/18/2021 I knew in October when I was reading Thurston's kidney biopsy that I would be writing this letter in a few months.  The vet felt with chemo we might buy him a few months.  He had 4. He came to us 3 years ago after being found in our vet's horse barn. (People dump cats off all the time on her property, he found his way to the barn)  He was a friendly cat so they fixed him and found that he was also FIV+.  They tried for months to find a home for him and then asked us to take him so he did not spend his life living in a cage. He had had many struggles with his health.  He had herpes flares that would cause blisters in his mouth. His teeth were horrible so he ended up with pretty much a full mouth extraction. He became diabetic.  Then develops kidney cancer.  Poor guy could not catch a break.      Today Thurston showed that he had enough,  was in pain and the pain medicine was not doing the job.  He could not urinate, his kidneys were done.  The lymphoma had won.  All the staff spent some time telling him goodbye and then he and I made the last trip to the vet.  I sat and cuddled with him for some time and then the vet sent him over the rainbow bridge. He was a big friendly fellow who loved to sit in your lap.  He was absolutely a sweetheart who tolerated having to take lots of meds over the years.  He will be missed.
