11/2019 Barney is a leukemia positive kitty who came to us from a shelter
in Virginia. We don’t know how he came to be there but we are glad they
reached out to us to take him. He was going to be euthanized if they did not
find placement for him.
Barney is a very very sweet kitty. He loves to sit in your lap and just kneeds
and purrs. I am so glad we could help him.

12/13/2022 Sweet Barney is a leukemia-positive cat who came to us 3 years after living in a
shelter for a year in Virginia.
He is a super sweet cat who loved getting attention and playing! He has struggled
with his health for several months. A few months ago he went blind in one eye, the
vet does not know why. Two weeks ago he started being a "hot cat". He was spiking
106 fevers. He was hospitalized and had lots of tests, x-rays, ultrasound, lots of
meds, and still no answer of what on earth was making him so sick. We could give
him keto which would lower his fever for 1/2 the day but this is not a medicine that
you can live forever, it will cause damage to his body.
This morning his temperature at 4 am was 106.3 (It had been 105-106 every
morning for a week) He looked pretty miserable. I gave him keto. By 6:30 am he
was up waiting at the door for breakfast and ate quite a bit. I decided to give him a
few hours, I keep hoping that some of the medicine will help. This afternoon his
temperature was 105.
We have been agonizing for the last week about what to do to help him. He can not
keep suffering from 105-106 fevers. The vets and I are out of ideas. Today he had
a good day, everyone spent extra time with him. We are about the quality of life and
dignity of death. Go one day early and not suffer, versus one day late and suffering.
So today he and I made our last trip together. He went over the rainbow bridge very
peacefully in my arms.
He was such a sweet gentle soul, tolerated having his temperature checked 3 or 4
times a day, 2 shots a day, and taking lots of medicines. He never complained. He
loves sitting in your lap and even as big as he was, he liked sitting on people's
shoulders. We were so blessed to have been loved by him for 3 years. He will be
very missed!
I am sorry
