Charles
10/18 Charles was rescued from animal control. He arrived there
in terrible shape after being rescued by his owner’s landlord.
According to the story we were given, his owner had become senile
and the landlord saw him and stepped in and took him to animal
control. He was covered with fleas, thin, filthy, in severe need of
a dental. According to the pound he was a senior cat and blind.
He is NOT blind, not senior and he is FELV+ He is also severely
anemic, sadly not caused by the fleas. We know his stay with us
will be short but right now he is eating like a champ and enjoying
being warn, inside, fed and loved.
His health is improving! Amazing removing all the bad
elements in his life (fleas and starvation) what a change
it has made. His body has finally rallied, producing
white blood cells (at one point he basically had zero)
We are happy that he may have some good time with us.

9/5/2019 When Charles arrived a year ago he was in such
bad condition we did not think he would last a week. He
had such a strong will to live, he fought for his life to stay
alive. We got him on the right medications to start trying
to fix all the problems he had and good nutrition. It is
amazing how things turned around for him.
He has become more anemic over the last few months and
has finally reached the point that we need to make some
serious decisions. Medically there were a few more things
we could try BUT they were not going to change the outcome
and they were going to cause him to suffer.
So do we go for quantity or quality of life?
He had survived hell before he came to us. With us he had
a good year with love, plenty of food, slept on soft beds,
being warm and dry. He is having quality of life. We
choose to let him go on a good day instead of a bad day.
Not waiting another few days/week until he was suffering
horrendously... He spent his morning with all the staff
spending extra time loving on him and then with the vet's
help he crossed quietly over the rainbow bridge in my
arms.
He was the sweetest old fellow who took his daily fluids
and medicine without complaint. He was just so happy
to be loved and safe. He will be very missed.
I am sorry
