Crystal
5/2020 Crystal is a 16 year old blind kitty who came to
us after their family was evicted from their home and their
family they were moving in with would not allow them to
keep their cats. She had lived with them her whole life.
She is of course shell shocked. She has lost her home, family
and friends in 1 snap of the finger. Imagine how you would
feel!
We took her to the vet to get her checked out. She is a bit thin,
and has a weird mass in her chest. Her family were smokers, we
suspect lung cancer. We will keep her comfortable for the time
she has.

5/27/2020 This is a letter I knew I would be writing, I had hoped not so soon...
Crystal arrived last month as a 16 year old blind cat. She had just lost her home, her family and everything she had known her whole life, She was frightened and
mourning her loss as much as we would.
When she arrived she was immediately taken to our vet. X-Rays showed a large mass in her chest. She was 16 years old, we were not going to put her through a
biopsy, chemo ect. The treatment would never cure her and would only cause her distress. This sweet girl did not deserve that.
The last few days Crystal had been vomiting everything she ate. She was on medicine to help that and it was not doing any good. Yesterday we had the vet
examine her again and pull blood when she was at the shelter giving rabies etc and we would make some kind of plan today after seeing the results of her blood work.
Her blood work was pretty normal, her physical exam was pretty normal except for the fact she had lost a lot of weight in the last week (which we knew) She vomited a
lot last night, and this morning after breakfast so we took her to the vets office. X-Rays were taken to see if it would help give us a clue. She was not vomiting from
constipation. The mass was much larger and it appeared to be pressing on her esophagus, thus the vomiting. The food could not get down to the stomach. There
was no question the right thing to do was to let her go.
She went quietly in my arms. I know she wishes it has been her family with her at the end. I wish they had done the right thing by her.
She was a sweet old girl, loved to be pet, liked to be brushed and sit in your lap. I wish we could have had more time with her. When we saw the mass when she
came in we knew it was not going to be.
I am sorry
Alana
