9/2020 Meet Derek - AKA McDreamy (Yes Grays Anatomy fan, this group of new kitties are named after the show.) Derek is a Leukemia positive kitty who came to us from a shelter in South Carolina. Isn’t he the cutest kitty? He is super sweet and full of playfulness. We hope we get to enjoy watching him growing up.

March 4-2021 This is one of those letters that you know you are going to have to write soon, but when the time comes you just can't find the words. Little Derek - aka McDreamy - came to us as a leukemia positive kitty 6 months ago from an animal control facility in SC.  He was cute, friendly, with a wonderful personality and huge purr.  Derek's started having health issues in February. He was anemic and a FELV Quantum PCR test was run.  It showed he had a high concentration of leukemia in his blood.  We knew leukemia was now in charge.  Last week he started spiking high fevers (105-106) and was hospitalized. The anemia was now nonregenerative.   We brought him home with medication to try to give him more time.  He was still spiking 105-106 fevers daily but was still eating, it was not time yet. Medications and fluids were given and we could push it down some but not enough.  Yesterday started as it did every morning for him  106.2 fever, fluids, medicines.  He felt like crap.  A little bit later he did rally a little bit to nibble, but his breathing became more labored.  It was clearly time to let this baby go.  He and I returned to the vet's office and I held him purring in my arms as he went over the rainbow bridge. He went too early.  He and Meredith were supposed to have more time.   He was a fun, friendly, playful little fellow until he became so sick.   We will miss his sweet personality.
