Dusty
4/2019 Dusty is a senior girl who came to us from animal control in Oklahoma.
It sometimes take a village to help these cats.
* The cat was found by a citizen and turned into animal control because he was afraid
she would be hit by a car.
* No one claimed the kitty and after holding for 3 weeks she was running out of time.
* Volunteers reached out to us to see if we could take her. Sadly we did have space
and told them they needed to figure out how to get her here. At the same time
we reached out to Davica, our angel flight attendant who has saved so many other
cats and flown them for us.
* Davica said yes she could fly her.
* Davica a couple of days later flies at 5:30 am to Dallas
* Volunteers from Oklahoma drive 3 hours to take the kitty to meet Davica’s
plane in Dallas.
* Davica and Dusty take off heading for the Charlotte Airport.
* We drive 3 hours to Charlotte airport to meet Davica’s plane with the kitty.
* We meet Davica’s plane for the hand off and drive back 3 hours to the shelter.
It took a village.
This is a very sweet thin senior kitty. She has serious
heart issues and is going to get an ECG & EKG
next week. She badly needs a dental but we need
to make sure her heart can handle the anesthesia.
She also has hypertension and a raging infection that she is
being treated for and has kidney disease. She has had a
rough life.
Her cardiology tests are tragic. She has congestive
heart failure secondary to Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
We are giving her medications to try to stabilize her heart.
We are basically hospice for her. We will love her and
take care of for the time she has.

When Dusty arrived 5 weeks ago from animal control in Oklahoma we meet
a very sweet, old blind kitty with the prettiest fur markings we had ever seen.
All new cats to BCR get a complete medical checkup. Blood, x-rays, Etc.
Her ultra sound & cardiac panels showed that she was in horrible condition.
She had probably been hypertensive for a long time because she had kidney
disease, end stage congestive heart failure secondary to hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy. Our vet felt she would not last a very long time, we are
going to be hospice for her. Lots of meds were prescribed.
The last 2 days she was refusing foods, fluids, appetite stimulant and syringe
feeding (which she really hated!) were all tried. Her pulse was racing, her
respiration's were double what they should be. Yesterday after lots of
discussing with the vet we made the decision that it was time to tell her good
bye. We believe it is better to go on a good day verses a bad day, she was
very quickly approaching a bad day, quality of life is the most important
thing, we would never allow her to suffer! The staff spent lots of extra time
with her loving on her and then in the afternoon, I held her in my arms as she
crossed the rainbow bridge.
We wish we had had more time. She will be remember as a very very sweet
kitty and her gentle spirit will be missed.
