8/19 Elvis is a leukemia positive friendly little guy who came to us from Animal Control in Tennessee. They were trapping and fixing stray cats in a local trailer park. Over 100 cats!! The friendly ones they found homes for. When Elvis test positive for leukemia the vet refused to euthanize a healthy kitten thus saving his life. He came to us with 2 other kitties. These are the first ones their shelter has ever placed that were positive for FELV. He just arrived a few days ago. He is very friendly and playful.

Everyday when I get up, I make a promise  to the cats to try to always make my decisions for their care in their best interests and to provide them with the best care we can.  It is a promise I take seriously.   When the decision is made to euthanize a cat it is never made lightly or without knowledge and a lot of thought and discussion with the vet.  Yesterday I could see that Elvis was showing me signs that he was developing FIP.  Yesterday was a beautiful day, temps in the 70's and lots of sunshine.  I made the decision to not face the demon FIP until today.  He did not appear to be in pain. He would  get to have 1 last good day.  He spent his day being loved on,  laying in the sun.  It was a good day.  We have been told there's cure out there for FIP.  I spent yesterday looking for it.  It is not approved by the FDA,  it has not been proven to be 100% cure.  Some of it is coming in from China with no control over purity.  The real stuff is still in the study stage. The cost would be over  $10,000.  Little Elvis came to us 3 months ago from animal control and leukemia positive.  He arrived with Dot and Dash, all sick with upper respiratory infections.  Dash has also passed away.    He had a few months of good health and quality of life,  Played and loved everyone.  But sadly with kittens  FIP is always a danger,  especially if they are Leukemia positive.  He went over the rainbow bridge quietly in my arms. He will be missed.  I am sorry
