Helen
12/2019 Helen is a senior kitty who came to us from an Animal Control facility in New Jersey where she had been turned in as a stray that someone found under their car. The shelter felt that she is blind (She appears to have some sight.) She is terrified and spends most of her time hunkered down in her litter box. She is very sweet. A wonderful Delta flight attendant flew her to us. According to her paperwork this poor cat lived in a cage for 5 months at an animal control system. We are sure with minimal human contact. It is going to take some time to get her to trust us. We have her out of the cage and into a room. She does not seem to have any issues with the other cats. You may see her live on her cat camera House 1 - Room 3.

4/2021 Update - She is adjusting better. She has a few humans that are her favorites. Runs as fast as she can if a man walks into the room. We don’t know what on earth she endured in her life, but she is safe now.
6/9/2022 Sweet Helen came to us 2 1/2 years ago from a shelter in NJ.  We were told she was a senior blind kitty approx 13 years old at the time.  She had lived in a cage for many months and they needed a place for her to go.  We don't know what kind of things she had endured in her life but she was frozen in terror.  She was so scared and frozen that she had convinced TWO vets that she was blind.  (She was not blind)  Once she calmed down she showed us how well she could see.   It took the staff a long time to get her to trust us but with a lot of work and patience, she bonded with some of the people and would finally give us a chance.   Last week we had taken her to the vet for her check-up and her Xrays showed she had severe spondylosis in her spine.  Saturday I took her back because she seemed to be down in her hip and back and seemed to be in pain walking  (she was on pain meds). This morning the staff found that she was completely not able to stand and she was rushed to the vet.  Sadly there was no circulation in her feet and legs and there were no pulses and they were cold.  She had a saddle thrombosis,  (she had thrown a clot)  We knew that there was no fixing this and she was held in Samantha's arms and sent over the rainbow bridge. She was a very sweet girl and we are so glad that for the last 2 years of her life she knew what it was like to be loved and cared for.  She will be missed by all of us.
