ONYX
10/2019 Little Onyx (originally named Tomato) is a leukemia positive kitty from an Animal Control facility in Tennessee. He is a double lucky fellow. The center that had him wanted to save him, and the people driving Nugget and Maria to us were willing to meet up and let him catch a ride with them. He is around 5 months old and very sweet. We have concerns about his medical condition, his starting blood work is not good. He is young, we hope we will get to have years with him. You may watch him live on his live kitty camera. He is in Building 2, room 4

11/4/2019 This is a very very sad letter to be writing. Sweet Onyx was a leukemia positive kitty who came to us a month ago from animal control. When a kitty first arrives they receive an extensive health check including blood work. His blood work showed he was anemic when he arrived. Further blood testing was done and the cause of the anemia showed that the leukemia was firmly in control. I knew that our time with him was not going to be years but I had hoped for months. That was not to be. He was taken to the vet last week for weight loss. He was a kitten who was eating, he should be gaining not losing. We took him back to the vet today for more weight loss. His blood work showed that he was now super anemic. It showed that the leukemia had fully invaded his bone marrow and was destroying his red blood cells. There is no fixing this for a leukemia positive kitty. After a lot of tears and 2nd, and 3rd opinions I made the decision to let him go out on a good day. We will miss him very much. He was a nice fun little fellow who loved to play. I so wish we had had a chance to show him years of love instead of a month. We were blessed to have known him.
