Phillip
10/18 Phillip came to us from animal control in Georgia. We knew when they contacted us that he was sick. Being Leukemia positive and sick was a guaranteed death sentence for him. They had a devoted volunteer drive him 6 hours to us. He is a nice fellow but OMG, hates to have medication. He is a 2 person job for meds. He has spent a week in the hospital trying to get him in better condition. He still has eye issues, we are making an appointment for him to go to an eye specialist. Update: The eye specialist feels that his eyes are fine, that is just how they are shaped. We do have some drops for them to make sure they are not causing him pain. He is now in his room and loves other cats. You may find him on his live camera in House 2, Room 1.

2/8/19 This is a devastating sad letter to be writing! Phillip came to us 3 months ago as a leukemia positive kitty with severe mouth issues. Yesterday he was back at the vet yet again with mouth issues. Because Phillip was very very difficult to medicate because of his mouth pain (like impossible) the vet suggested that we place a feeding tube to make it much less stressful for him to receive a new regiment of medications that we hoped would finally heal all of his mouth issues. I felt that was a great idea so we could easily give him all of his meds and not have to cause him any additional pain with his mouth. With all surgeries with humans and animals, there is always a risk. He had all preoperative blood work that did not raise any concerns. But good blood test does not necessarily mean everything will go well. There is a one in a million chance they might have complications from surgery or anesthesia. Sadly today Phillip was that one. He coded on the table under anesthesia and they were not able to save him. Phillip was a very sweet loving fellow who loved attention. He always had a smile on his face. He came to us after living outside trying to survive on his own. With us he knew what a soft bed and full belly felt like. We are happy we were able to give him 3 months of love and attention , we just wish it has been years more instead.
