3/2019 - Precious is a 16 year old blind and very hard of hearing cat. His owner called their
vet to make an appointment to euthanize him because he had gone blind. He was an outdoor
cat and they did not want to have to bring him inside. He lived in a box on their front porch
and according to his medical records was attacked several times from neighborhood strays.
They also complained that his meow was very loud. This poor now blind cat that is hard
of hearing, living in a box on their porch, it is winter, he is blind, scared, cold and alone. I would
be meowing too! We have heard him meow twice. It is loud, but now he has nothing to cry
about. he is warm, safe and not being attacked by other animals.
One of our Facebook followers worked at the vets office and contacted us to see if we could
take him. She saved his life. We are grateful that they were willing to let us take him verse
euthanizing him. He is very loving so he obviously was loved on.
I knew the minute I saw him that he had severe hypertension and I am sure that took his sight.
I also suspect it took his most of his hearing. He was immediately taken to our vet for a full work up.
His blood pressure was over 300! It should be down around 100 like a humans! If they had started
treatment immediately he might not have become blind. He is now being treated for his high BP
and other health issues he has.
He is a very very sweet fellow. You touch his back and he immediately butt pops. He is eating good and
adjusting to his new reality. He will be going into a room in a couple of weeks once we make sure
we have his health issues under control.

Precious
Sleeping peacefully warm and safe.
Update: Because he had just become recently blind when he arrived and his retina’s had not detached
and we began blood pressure treatment immediately he has regained his sight. That happens in a very
small percent of cats when all the stars are aligned correctly. He was very lucky.
This is what a former outside kitty looks like
safe and finally asleep in a soft bed inside.

11/5/2020 RIP Precious
Precious came to us almost 22 months ago as a 16-year-old blind, FIV+ cat.
He has been living outside on his owner's porch in a box his entire life.He had
started loud meowing at night and it was waking the owners up. (Apparently, the box
was under their bedroom window and his meow is very loud.) It was winter, he was
cold, blind, and scared. The owners were tired of being awakened so they took him
to the vet to euthanize him. They were shocked to find out he had gone blind, they
had no idea. Someone at the vet's office plead for his life and asked to have a day
or 2 to find a place for him to go. He was a nice cat and could still have a year or 2
of a decent life. That person contacted us and begged for space for him. She also
drove several hours to bring him to us. We took one look at his eyes and knew he
had hypertension. He was at our vet the next morning and immediately started on
medicine. A few weeks later we noticed that he was actually looking at us. He could
clearly see us. He had gotten a miracle and getting hypertension under control had
brought back his sight.
When he arrived he was not fond of other cats. Living as an outside cat, he had
been attacked by other cats contracting FIV in the process. He learned to adjust to
living with others. He loved living inside, having soft beds, being warm and dry.
When he arrived it was winter and cold outside, he snuggled into a soft bed and
probably slept his first sound night not having to worry about being attacked or cold.
We were so happy to be able to give that to him.
In the last few months, he has been struggling with his health. He had developed
kidney and heart disease and it was becoming progressively worse. He is losing
weight, wasting away, his kidneys have both basically stopped working. It was time to
let him go. He spent today being loved on by the staff. It was a pretty day so he had
the opportunity to go out on the catio to enjoy the sunshine. He had a good last
day.
This afternoon he and I went to the vet's office for our final goodbye. I held him in my
arms as he crossed the rainbow bridge.
Precious was a very nice cat and I am so glad that we were able to give him 2 years
of a good comfortable life to make up for the many years of neglect he had endured.
He will be missed.
