Richard
11/2020 Richard is a leukemia positive cat. He came to us with his 3 siblings from animal control. They had run out of time and were scheduled to be euthanized. He is a very friendly playful fellow. We hope we get some time to watch him grow up.

3/22/2021 Richard arrived in November 2020 with his leukemia-positive siblings.  He was not in great shape when he arrived and an ultrasound told us that we were hospice for him.  He improved for a little bit and enjoyed a month or 2 of feeling decent, playing, gaining weight, and getting to be a normal kitten.  A few weeks ago he spiked a 105+ fever and was rushed to the vet.  He was hospitalized for 2 days and we brought him home for whatever time he would have.  We also started a new experimental medicine for leukemia that we were hoping would give us a miracle.  Every day he was spiking high fevers,  every day we were giving him medicine to take the fever down.  He is eating but his weight continued to drop from cancer.  He now weighs what he did when he arrived.   Sunday we knew that we had reached our last good day for him.  No more nasty tasting medicine that made him gag, no more needles,  a day of peace.  It was a good day, a pretty day, he spent it outside on the catio, the staff spent extra time with him. This morning he and I made our last trip to the vet and I held him as he went over the rainbow bridge. He was a sweet loving fellow who tolerated having his temperature every day, taking awful medicines, shots, etc.  We will miss his sweet gentle spirit. We wish the new medicine had helped change our outcome.
