Sylvester
3/18/2017 This kitty is a friendly fellow that was living in an outside colony in Orlando, Florida, when someone found him with a bad bite wound and brought him to Orange County Animal Services. Orange County treated his wound, tested him and he turned out to be Leukemia positive. Normally they would have put him down right away, but he was ear-tipped so per their agreement they contacted the local TNR group to come bail him out. The woman from CARE Feline TNR found someone to foster him temporarily until she found a permanent home or rescue to take him. After much searching with no success, she had a friend contact us. His bite wound left him with a very large hernia that was not repaired. His surgery pre-blood work showed he is very anemic. It would be to dangerous to do surgery right now. (This is why it is so important you do pre-surgery blood work.) We are now treating the cause of the anemia and will try again in 2 weeks. He is a big love bug, very talkative, seriously does not like being in quarantine. He is enjoying living inside, regular food and a soft bed. He has moved into his room and seems to get along fine with others. He has been been retested and is still anemic. We are treating with new medication and hope to do his surgery soon.

7/20/2017 RIP Sylvester - This is the letter I sent to his sponsors This is a letter we knew we would be writing soon, that does not make it any easier. Sylvester’s blood work has been horrible since he first arrived. No interventions were improving the situation. He had leukemia and it was active. Each month we did new blood work and it showed the horrible progression but the big guy wanted to live and kept on eating. Today he looked awful, obviously did not feel good. Back to the vet for blood work. The blood work showed his bone marrow was not longer working at all, it was time to say goodbye. He was such a big gentle fellow who touched our hearts. We are blessed to have know him for 4 months. He had lived on the streets and had such a bad life. For 4 months he knew air conditioning, soft beds, a full belly and a gentle hand of love. We are so glad to have had the opportunity to love him.
