Tabitha
4/2015 Tabitha came to us from Bladen Animal Control. I received a text from
the rescue that works with the shelter with the message that she had just come
into the shelter and was going to be put down in 2 hours if they could not find
a rescue for her. She is Blind. North Carolina law states that if an animal
comes in injured, sick or blind they may be euthanized immediately instead of
holding for the 72 hour stray hold. Tabitha is sick with a bad upper respiratory
infection and eye infection. Because she arrived late Friday afternoon we started
her immediately on antibiotics and eye antibiotics and was taken to the vet
first thing Monday morning. We did not feel she was so sick that she needed to
go in as an emergency. She is friendly but frightened.
Her blood work pleasantry surprised us, she is FIV negative. Being an intact
female, stray and sick gave us good odds of FIV.
Update, she has had her eyes fixed, got her healthy. You may

When she first arrived.
11/17/2020 This is a letter that I just can't believe I am writing today.
Tabitha was diagnosed with heart disease in March. Early this month her check-up
showed her heart disease had progressed considerably. Heart medications were
added and she had an appointment for a heart echo next week. This morning the
staff noticed she was breathing abdominally. She was immediately taken to the vet.
The vet did xrays and blood work. She had considerable fluid in her lungs. She was
in heart failure. She was administered Lasix and other medications to try to help her
breathe more comfortably. If you were watching our live broadcast today you saw
me take a call from the vet. You also saw me respond I am on my way and I left and
another person took over for me. That was the vet calling me telling me Tabitha was
not doing well at all. I got 1/2 the way there before the vet called me and told me
she had completely crashed, was suffering and she had euthanized her. She did the
right thing, none of us would have wanted her to suffer.
Tabitha came to us 5 years ago from animal control as a very sick blind kitty. She
loved to sit in laps and was very affectionate. She loved to meow at us and have
conversations with us. She would rub against us as we scooped the litter boxes.
We are devastated at losing her so suddenly. She will be very missed.
