Trevor
2/2019 Trevor came to us from Animal Control in Baltimore. He had been accidentally trapped in a trap. The person was trying for another cat and had no clue he was out there. He found himself in the trap. He has been starving and freezing. He was all matted up, skin and bones, has a mouth full of broken teeth with roots showing, which has to be causing him a lot of pain. Going into that trap ended up saving his life. We had a volunteer that lives in Baltimore pick him up from the pound and take him immediately to their vet to stabilize him. Bless them, they drove ½ way from Baltimore to meet us in Virginia to bring him to us. We took him straight to our vet where he was hospitalized. Animal controls vet said he is blind. He is not. They think he is around 12. He is the only one who knows his age. His initial blood work shows he has severe liver issues and a horrible infection. Our vet placed a feeding tube for us to help make sure he gets all the medications, pain meds and nutrition he needs. Even with a mouth food of horrible broken teeth he is eating (soft food of course!) Once we get him in better condition he will get the dental he desperately needs. He is not a friendly cat. We suspect in reality he is a feral cat (he is ear tipped) Regardless so long as we move slowly with him and do not touch his mouth he is co-operating. He is very afraid. I can feel him shaking as I put food/meds down the feeding tube. I hope we can show him that he is safe with us and not trying to hurt him. I do suspect right now he is enjoying being warm, fed and having a soft bed.

Trevor arrived last month from Baltimore a day or 2 before they had a bad polar freeze. He was accidentally trapped by a trapper (She did not know he was around, she was trying to get a different cat) She saw he was in bad shape and took him to animal control. We were notified that he was there, blind and needed help. With some help from 2 angels, he was sprung from animal control and soon arrived at BCR. When he arrived our vet did a complete exam and full blood work on him. It showed he was a very sick kitty including severe liver issues. Our vet inserted a feeding tube to help us make sure he was getting the nutrition he needed and special medicine for the liver in hopes that his body would be able to heal itself. He also had a mouth full of broken teeth. Who knows what hell this poor fellow had endured. He went to the vet last night for pre-blood before his dental today. The results were not good. He had developed jaundice. (He was yellow) and the blood work showed his liver was in serious trouble. There was no way he was going to survive the surgery. The vet and I discussed options and agreed that we were not going to be able to get him through this crisis and it was kinder to let him go. We find comfort in knowing that he knew kindness for a month. He was warm, fed and cared for at the end. He didn't die on the streets of Baltimore by freezing to death. I wish we had more time to get to know him.
