7/2016 Vinnie came to us from Animal Control in Kentucky where he was to be euthanized because he is FELV+ He is alive because of a very dedicated group of volunteers were determined to find him a safe place to go. When he arrived we immediately took him to the vet because he had received no vetting at animal control. Part of our full vetting process is to do body x-rays. We are often surprised to find bullets, pellets and the occasional broken bones. He has a healing broken leg, the other leg is going to need surgery. He also has some broken vertebra. We suspect he has been hit by a car. He is a very sweet fellow and we are glad we can help him. 8/1/2016 I am distraught to be writing this letter. Vinny went in to have surgery on his leg today. X rays showed injuries very consistent with having been hit by a car. The ball joint of his leg was not in the joint where it belonged (like your leg fitting into the socket so you can move it) His was behind the spot where it belonged causing him pain and not being able to walk properly. The vet felt it was fixable, had done this kind of surgery before on animals hit by a car and felt he was a good candidate for it. He was young and relative healthy even though he was FELV+ It was a very extensive and difficult surgery. Sadly his body was not able to recover from being under and he coded shortly after surgery and passed away. The vet was shocked and crying when she called me. Vinny was such a sweet friendly kitty who loved everyone. He got along with his room mates and even though he was only here for a month, will be very much missed.
