3/2014 Sargent is an approx 7 year old FIV+ cat. He is a big lovable Tom cat who loves head scratches. He came to us by way of a really good animal control facility in Tennessee. I do not think I have every seen an open admission shelter go to so much work to save a life. And to them we say thank you! He was turned in as a stray. He is still a bit frightened at all the changes in his life but seems to be friendly. I hope he likes other cats too :) He was neutered a week before he came to us so he will have to do a full 3 weeks in quarantine until all the testosterone leaves his system.UPDATE: He has moved into his room and adjusting well. He likes other cats :)

12/01/2023Dear friends,It weighs on us with a heavy heart to inform you that our beloved Sargent has passed the Rainbow Bridge. It was something we knew drew closer as the months passed. Sargent was 17 - 18 years old but he only knew his true age. Over the past two years we have been battling and treating a number of ailments for him. About two years ago he began to have seizures. We maintained therapeutic levels the entire time with epilepsy medication. As he became older we started pain management for his hips and back with cold laser therapy, pain medication and injections. This last year he was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Diabetes that was treated with proper medication as well. The last couple of days his appetite started to dwindle. However, he was still enjoying his multiple daily churu treat times. Cats are so good at pretending and putting on a fiacad when they don't feel their best. Today, he looked at us.. tired, hunched in pain.. He let the mask down. We let him go for what was best for him. As far as medication and therapy there wasn't anything else to help manage the pain. He was a big lovable Tom cat who loved head scratches. He came to us from a really good animal control facility in Tennessee in 2014. It's hard to imagine Sargent as a timid guy from when he first arrived. He grew to become such an affectionate older man. He would become a bright-eyed kitten once more when you would pull out his favorite ribbon toy to play. He truly was most at peace when he was able to spend his sunny afternoons in the memorial garden. Our hearts are breaking to look into room one peering at the empty spot next to Bear but it comes with great comfort knowing that Sargent was able to have this long life as an FIV+ cat. He was loved by many, able to get the best medical care possible, and never had to worry about food or ever being cold again.Thank you for making it possible to care for him over the 10 years that gave him the life that ALL cats deserve. I'm so sorry,Sam
