My Dear Supporters: 20 years ago Blind Cat Rescue was started as a dream to help Blind Cats. Over the years, because of your love and support, thousands of blind cats have been saved, tens of thousands of people have been educated about blind cats and many people have given blind cats a home. A few years later, we added helping FIV- and leukemia-positive cats because they are euthanized so quickly by rescues and at shelters and vet offices. Now, because of you, many are given another chance at life. Other shelters are also helping them and cat's lives are being saved. 5 years ago, because of your love and support, we started a spay/neuter program to help homeless community cats. We are fixing large colonies that are being fed but not fixed (think, Grannie is feeding all the strays but they keep reproducing). We have fixed more than 12,000 cats in the past 5 years, preventing tens of thousands of homeless babies from being born. Some of them would have become blind from untreated infections, some would be born to leukemia-positive and FIV-positive moms, and many starve, die of sickness, or are run over by cars. Your help has saved a lot of lives! Thank you so much for always being there for the cats! You have held our hands and cried with us when a cat passes away, you have laughed in joy at watching them grow up. You have voted, you have shared, you have donated, and you have visited and played with them and helped clean, You have always been there for them and I am so grateful to you! Now, 20 years later, due to my health, it is time for me to step down and retire. Blind Cat Rescue will continue with a younger generation taking over. I will remain here until the fall to continue helping with the transition. Samantha Steffens has been with me for 5 years and will take over my Executive Director job. Alyson Aguilar has been with us for more than 4 years and will be taking over as the Shelter Manager. I know in their hands the cats and BCR will be taken care of. They have big plans and I will be excited to see how they grow. I hope you will continue to love and support the cats and be there for them as much as you have been for me. Again, thank you so much for all you have done for the cats. Your support has accomplished so much and I will be forever grateful to you! Sincerely,Alana
Samantha:I am honored to continue the work that began as a mother-daughter operation and has now become a community of people who are dedicated to providing love and care for cats that are blind, FELV, and FIV-positive. I promise to lead our mission with dedication to the cats, supporters, and staff. We will provide utmost transparency in the care of cats, contributions distribution, and the future of Blind Cat Rescue. In 2018, I had the chance to change my career path and pursue my passion for caring for cats when I started working at Blind Cat Rescue as a cat care attendant. The year before that, I was fostering cats from 4,700 miles away in Oahu, Hawaii, and I learned about BCR through shared posts. BCR's posts educated me on the importance of providing blind, FELV, and FIV cats with a chance at life. When my spouse and I relocated to the Fayetteville area I was finally able to visit! I happened to stumble across a job application and had to seize that opportunity. Caring for the cats and falling in love with every one of them solidified my dream of where I personally needed to be. Thanks to the international network of profound support that shares this value through BCR, I found my way to this amazing community that has inspired me to make a difference every day.Alyson:Hello Blind Cat Rescue Supporters and lovers of cats alike. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your incredible love and support since Alana and her daughter started this sanctuary for cats deemed unadoptable. If it weren’t for you guys, the many lives that BCR has saved and will continue to save would not exist. I also thank you guys not only for the support but for creating this community. Blind Cat Rescue has truly become a second family to me and I have gotten to meet genuine people and have made life-lasting relationships with them.Coming to BCR back in July of 2019, I was blown away with this place and all that Alana had started. I have gotten to learn and continue to learn so much about the blind, FIV, and leukemia-positive cats. My love for and interest in this sanctuary grew daily and this job quickly turned into something that I could see becoming much more than just a job. Taking care of so many lives is truly rewarding and getting to love them and share them with the world is one of the most beautiful things I’ll ever get to do during my life.Continuing what Alana started so many years ago and reaching out and educating more and more people about blind, FIV, and leukemia-positive cats is truly an honor. Again, you guys are amazing and I can’t wait to continue caring for the BCR cats saving more lives!A Special Message From Blind Cat Rescue’s Board of Directors:Seth (President of board of Directors)You’ve read Alana’s news and heard Sam's wonderful message. The BCR board would like to express profound gratitude to Alana for creating this wonderful organization, for helping it grow and thrive for 20 years, and for helping secure its future - all with your help. We’re forever grateful to her for all the hard work, love and dedication she’s given BCR. We are also very happy that, as Alana put it, the next generation of BCR leadership is in place. We have great confidence in Samantha and Alyson, who have both demonstrated that they care deeply for the cats and are wonderful leaders. Both of them have spent time with Alana learning the many aspects of running BCR, and we are certain that they will continue BCR’s amazing work and take the organization into the future. As a board, we’re here to assist Sam and Alyson in any way we can and to help them keep BCR moving forward. We realize that Alana's news may surprise many of you and we agree that this is a big change for the BCR family! We want you to assure you that Job #1 will continue to be providing excellent and consistent care for our resident cats so that we live up to the promise we make to them when they arrive – that BCR is their forever home. That will never change. We also want to assure you - the cats’ wonderful sponsors, sustainers and supporters - that you and the cats will continue your very special relationship! The things you love and are accustomed to seeing aren’t changing. You are the reason the BCR cats have the loving home they do and we thank you so much for making it all happen for the past 20 years. On behalf of all the BCR board members, we thank you for loving the BCR cats so much and for your ongoing support for BCR, and especially for Samantha and Alyson as they take on their new roles. Sincerely,Seth JasonPresident, BCR Board of Directors
