Snicker says THANK YOU! so much for voting for him in the Tournament
of Tails contest! Snicker held first place until 11:30 pm. At one
point the voting website even crashed there were so many votes
being put in. Petplan Insurance (the company sponsoring the
contest) told me that over 10,000 votes had been cast by noon
when their site crashed. At 11:30 pm Grannies (our competition)
pulled into first and beat us by 900 votes.
Petplan contacted Grannie to congratulate them and they offered
to share the prize with us. Petplan was so touched by that offer
they decided to award the $5,000 to both groups. How cool is
that!! We are very grateful to you that worked so hard voting
and sharing, grateful to Petplan Insurance for giving us
the opportunity to win the money and to Grannies for the
kindness offering to share the money.
Thank you so so much for all the wonderful birthday
wishes, candy and help raising $512. for the spay/neuter
program!! You helped another 10 cats be fixed!

For you that follow us on Facebook you know of the
sudden death of Garfield. We had taken him to the
vet the day before because he had lost considerable weight
(they are weighed every single week) The next morning
the vet’s office called me that he was spiking a fever of
107 and asked me if I wanted to take him to Raleigh
or have them handle it. 107 is not something to mess around
with. I said get him hooked up on fluids and medication
and try to get the fever down, and do in house blood so
we know now what we are dealing with (they had sent
the bloodwork out to an outside lab but it was not back yet)
I would decide then if I wanted to take him to Raleigh or not.
She also did abdominal x-rays. She called a couple hours
later, his fever was coming down, blood work was completely
normal. ( I saw it later and just shook my head, it showed a
completely healthy cat according to the blood work except for
the fact that he had just died) She called an hour later and said
he had been sitting in the cage, fluids hooked up, acting
pretty normal, grooming himself, had given a sudden scream
and fell over dead. They started immediate CPR, put him
through the whole routine, epi, etc but never got a heart
beat back. I told her to do a necropsy and let me know
what she finds. He had thrown a clot. Just like humans
will sometimes throw a clot, so do animals. He also had
the early start of FIP, the loss of weight and fever were
the starting symptoms, it just had not affected his blood
work yet. He was such a big friendly fellow. I am glad
I had time to play with him during boxes Monday Night.
You may read his story and see more pictures of him
at http://blindcats.org/garfield.htm
Ernest
Ernest started on the Polyprenyl immunostimulant and interferon and is
actually doing well. He has regained a little bit of weight. We are going
to do another blood test this week to compare it to the last one to see
how the FIP is progressing. So long as it stays dry he could do well
on the PI for months. You can watch him live on http://ustream.tv/blindcatrescue
on Monday’s.
Treasure
Treasure is a very nice FELV+ cat that came in with horrible mouth problems.
He has had 2 dentals, one a few weeks ago. The dentist vet wanted to do
his dental in 2 parts because he had his under for so long. He gets part 2
this week. You may read his story here: http://blindcats.org/treasure.htm

Meet Micky
You may see lots of pictures of Mickey including baby
pictures and a video of him when he was little on his page
http://blindcats.org/mickey.htm
Mickey came to us as a very sick kitty from the Scotland County
humane society. The humane society has a drop off box
for people to leave their animals in after hours. (They are on a
busy street and pepole would just turn them loose and they
were getting hit by cars etc. The drop off pen is horrible but
it is what it is) The director told me when she pulled into the
parking lot she saw a body that she figured was a dead
animal because it had been raining and very cold during the
night. She was very surprised when the animal stood up and
walked to the end of the cage and mewed at her. She told
me that any one that had that strong of a will to live deserved
a chance. In North Carolina that law states that animal
control (this humane society is also the county animal control)
may euthanize an animal immediately if they are sick (he was
very sick) injured or blind. Yes blind is actually in there.
and he was absolutely blind. She got him dried off and
warmed up and contacted us. She could release him
immediately to us instead of holding him for stray hold because
he was sick. And as she put it, no one was going to come
looking for him.
Mickey was a very sick kitten. I immedately got him on
antibiotics and started syringe feeding him. He was a super
loving fellow and I think so grateful to be alive, warm and
fed. It took about 4 days for the antibiotics to kick in before
he started eating on his own. Once he was stronger we
of course got him all vetted out.
He loves to play, is an ornery fellow who loves to run the door
into the lobby on the staff and thinks humans are actually
trees and likes to climb peoples legs. Take a few minutes
on his webpage you will see what a friendly little fellow he is.
We are blessed to have him as part of our family. He owes
his life to kind people like you that are reading this that help support
BCR.
