As we speed into 2016 I want to take a minute to say thank you so much for all the wonderful things your support made possible in 2015. With your help we won a $50,000 life time award from Eagle Rare. Those funds were used to start an endowment fund to protect the cats in the future and provide the shelter with a whole building automatic generator. With your help 1283 homeless/stray/feral cats were spayed or neutered. These cats all have care takers feeding them but officially are homeless. Spaying & neutering them will prevent many thousands of homeless babies being born in the future. I know the cats are very grateful for your help! With your help 210 sets of pet oxygen masks were provided to the county fire department. These masks will give them the tools to help save pets lives in house fires for many many years. With your help a heat detector and quick release was provided to the local k-9 department. This unit will help keep two police officers much safer. With your help loving quality care has been provided to 93 blind, FIV & leukemia positive cats. These cats are provided the medical care they need and a loving forever home at Blind Cat Rescue. Together we have touched the lives of so many animals and humans. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together in 2016! We are so grateful to you!

Meet Victor

A word from the head Cat

Victor is one of our full time employees. In the mornings he cares for and cleans up after the cats. In the afternoons he puts together many of the videos you see posted on Facebook. He is 22, and has been here going on 2 years. In his spare time he likes to play video games and social media photography.

Cat UPDATES

Major had chemo this week and did well. Now he goes to an every other week protocol.

Spent 6 hours with Greta in Raleigh yesterday. She was so ready to come home! After X-rays, ultrasound, liver cytology, blood work and almost $2,000 we still don’t know why she is sick but we do know more than we did before. 1. Suspect Primary Intestinal disease. (likely inflammatory bowel disease) 2. Enlarged liver and bad liver values - suspect bacterial infection 3. Anemia 4. Severely enlarged heart. So. we are treating the infection and redoing blood work at our local vet next week to see which way the values are going. She is eating on her own now. We do still have the feeding tube for medications and to make sure that her caloric intake is sufficient to maintain her weight. Once we get her through this crisis we will make an appointment with the cardiologist. She is back in her room, active, perky and does not behave as if she is in any discomfort.

We have some remodeling/repair & maintenance going on. Meet Tino. He built both of our buildings with is own 2 hands. Once a year in November he comes from New York and does any repairs or projects that need to be done. This week he installed the plumbing so we could put a second washing machine in house one. The one we had kept breaking down (in warranty) so I bought a new one while we waited a MONTH for a new mother board. It has been repaired and I had Tino install it in the building. Now when a washer breaks down they are not without one while we wait for repairs. The other house has 2 washers also. Right now he is replacing the flooring material in the “special” (translation = spray ) room. We pulled up the linoleum because we have never found a caulk that can withstand the acid from the cats urine and the bleach and it was getting under the linoleum. We are putting a color concrete and heavy duty sealer down that should make it much easier on the staff to keep the room sanitary.

Ray

We ran Ray to the vet this morning for quick blood work. I have a strong suspicion that he is hyperthyroid. He is eating as much food as 2 cats and still acts like he is starving. Will know tomorrow if I am right.

Others went in for normal check ups. Manxi has a UTI is home on antibiotics. Everyone else is doing well. A couple need dentals. We will do them after Christmas.

Sheila went in for a check up. Her heart murmur is now a 6/6 With her being FELV+ we know that this is not treatable. She is eating and doing well. She is getting medication to try to help the load on her heart.
