For unknown reasons to us Boone ended up at Animal Control. Any
animal at animal control in North Carolina that is sick or injured
(which includes blindness) can immediately be euthanized. Luckily
for Boone though he was so friendly they got him transferred their
local Humane Society. The workers running the shelter were an
amazing and dedicated group who were willing to go the extra mile
to get him a home. They contacted us and drove him down to us
from Boone, NC (hence his namesake).
We believe he is blind from a genetic defect, otherwise his eyes are
healthy and in good condition. He also has a defect with his foot that
makes him walk a bit funny. We had him seen by multiple orthopedic
veterinarians initially when he was not having pain with it and it was
deemed unrepairable. He started having more trouble with the foot
though, his foot curling, and recently had to have surgery to help with
the discomfort. He still walks funny and we will continue to have to
keep an eye on his foot, but his surgery was helpful and healed well.
Boone is a large fellow, but very friendly. He loves everyone,
especially the other cats, and is just a huge love bug.
You may watch him LIVE 24 hours a day on his MeShare
Camera. He is in house 1, room 3.

12/5/2019 This is a letter that I just can't wrap my head around that I am having to write.
The big Boone man is gone. I just can't fathom that he we lost him.
He had minor surgery this morning to remove a growth on his tongue that we were
concerned about. He came home, was acting fine, etc. He was walking around fine during
the live tour. While we were giving evening meds he was eating like normal and then all
of a sudden he could not stand and was dragging his hind end. This happened IN
FRONT OF ME! I grabbed him, and flew to the vet hoping the whole time this was not
a clot... and in my heart I knew it was.
With cats like with humans it is always a possibility. I got to the vet and ran straight
into the treatment room (I had called them and told them we were on the way as I
was driving). His feet were cold. We did another test that confirmed there was no
circulation below his waist. He was also now screaming in pain. It was horrifying
because we needed to get a catheter placed. (The vet gave him a shot to try to help him
not be in pain) With tears pouring down my face we sent him over the rainbow bridge.
I still just can not believe with him this is not some horrible nightmare that I will
wake up from.
Boone man was a sweet gentle giant who was wonderful with the other cats. For
the longest time he was the only boy in a room full of girls. When he had new male
roommates join him he welcomed them. You would often find the 3 boys cuddled
sleeping together. I know Skipper and Fester will miss him as much as we will. We
were so blessed to have had 8 years with him!
I am heart broken
