Meet Caroline and Charlotte

Charlotte and Caroline came to us from a horrible hoarding situation. A couple dozen starving cats were trapped on a farm eating rocks and debris trying to survive. A rescue was alerted to the situation and got involved. They put the word out on Facebook about the situation. The cats were testing leukemia positive and they needed help. We offered to take the 2 sickest ones. Because of the amazing support of you wonderful people, we had the ability financially to help these 2 cats. Their bills topped $3,000! They have both been spayed and are still recovering. They are the sweetest cats you have met. They are looking for sponsors. Sponsor Caroline Sponsor Charlotte

It is that time of the year when the pollen etc start your eyes running and eyes sneezing. Did you know cats can have allergies that are very similar? Can my have multiple allergies so a through examination by your veterinarian or veterinary dermatologist is recommended. Cat allergies are divided into 3 main categories: Flea allergy, environmental allergies and food allergy. Environmental and flea are the most common. Symptoms: Allergic kitties are often very itchy and have skin problems associated with allergic dermatitis. They may also exhibit some of these symptoms: Sneezing, coughing & wheezing - especially if the cat has asthma * Itchy, runny eyes * Vomiting or diarrhea * Snoring caused by an inflamed throat * Paw chewing or swollen, sensitive paws There are a variety of allergens that cause these symptoms: *Pollen, grass, plants, mold, mildew and other organic substances Food * Perfumes and colognes * Fleas or flea-control products * Household cleaning products * Prescription drugs * Some cat litters Cats with a food allergy typically will have gastrointestinal symptoms so it is important to avoid feeding your cat food to which he or she have a known allergy. Allergies tend to be more common among outdoor cats because they are exposed to a wider range of potential allergens especially from plants and organic matter. If something appears to be making your kitty miserable, the best thing to do is take them to your vet. They will do a exam, etc to help determine the cause of their discomfort. Treatment & Prevention: The best way to treat your cat’s allergies is to remove the allergens from their environment. If they are allergic to fleas, use vet recommended flea and tick preventatives may eliminate the cause. if the problem is cat litter, change to a dust free alternative could do the trick. This might help correct a bigger problem if your cat is missing the litter box. Sometimes medications can be prescribed to help, but first take your cat to find out what you are dealing with.
