Approximate Age (As of 2017): 19 yearsBreed: Domestic Short HairStatus: BlindDate Arrived: May 2012Arrival Location: North CarolinaAbbey is a blind cat that came to us in 2012 when she was 14 years old. She had been with her former family since she was a kitten when they dumped her at Animal Control, where she was to be euthanized. At the last minute she found some luck in that the facility decided to try and reach out to the community to see if anyone would adopt her - despite the state protocol being immediate euthanasia. After arriving at BCR we immediately took her to the vet for a much needed eye removal surgery (which you may see in her first arrival photos) and dental care. When she first arrived she was in absolute shock and very depressed. We cannot begin to imagine the pain she felt losing her family, home, and everything she had ever known. She was a sweet cat though then, and now years later has continued to be a sweetheart. You may watch her 24 hours a day LIVE on her pet cam:log in is admin@blindcatrescue.com password is passwordShe is in House 2, room 3.
Abbey was so depressed after losing her home she stopped eating. We had a feeding tubeput in and worked hard to convince her she was loved and would never lose her home again.
With feeding tube.

3/27/2019 Abbey came to us almost 7 years ago at the age of 14 from animal control where she had been dropped off by the only family she had ever known. We promised her when she came through our door she would never lose another home and we kept our promise.I was sitting in her room today spending some time with them and watched her begin having some difficulty breathing. Her breathing quickly became progressively labored. I rushed her to the vet. When we arrived she was breathing 72 times a minute! Quick x-rays were done and they did not look good. All 3 vets looked at the x-rays as did I There was a mass. She was over 20 years old, had had years of excellent health, was loved and cared for. It was time to let her go. I held her in my arms as she crossed the rainbow bridge.Abbey was a very sweet old girl who loved to be loved on. She had the loudest purr. She will be very missed!I am sorryAlana
